At a recent strategic planning meeting, the DDFUA has made the decision to make the Umpire Coordinator position redundant.
Simon Gilbert, who has filled the position for the past three years, informed the DDFUA that he would be pursuing other opportunities in 2012 and hence would not continue as Umpire Coordinator.
The DDFUA felt, given the restructuring of the Operations Department over the past two years, the duties of the Umpire Coordinator would best be redistributed among the other members of the Department.
The Umpire Manager, currently filled by Daniel Gibbons, will now be responsible for representing the DDFUA on the District JCC and DFDC bodies and will have a strong strategic focus. The Umpire Manager will be ably supported by three Umpire Coaches who will have increased responsibility over the day-to-day operations of the DDFUA.
The DDFUA would like to thank the contribution that Simon has made to umpiring over the past few years. His work as Umpire Coordinator has driven an increasingly professional environment, which has allowed for this current restructure to take place.
