The Demons District season drew to a conclusion with the Grand Finals over the 17th and 18th of September. All games were hard fought with the teams playing in a competitive and fair spirit.
The DDFUA field, boundary, goal and emergency umpires represented the red and black proudly over the weekend.
The weekend kicked off with the 13s Grand Final, umpired by BJ Stalenhoef & Thomas Cullen. It was a low scoring game with Belmont capitalising the most on their chances. They triumphed 6.3-39 to Thornlie Green 2.4-16.
The 14s game also saw Belmont emerge triumphant 14.7-91 to Victoria Park 6.10-46. The game umpired by Bryan Doyle and Cory Dugan was of high quality with some outstanding individual performances from both teams.
For the second consecutive season the 15s was hotly contested by South Perth and Victoria Park and was umpired by Robert Evans and Nathaniel Ockelford. South Perth ran out convincing winners 10.7-67 to Victoria Park 1.3-9. South Perth also earnt the right to play off for the Barry Cable Cup against Morley, who won the 15s East Perth Grand Final.
The Grand Finals concluded at Brownes Stadium with the 17s game, umpired by Matt Fennell and Rhys Turner. Ballajura dominated the game early but could not convert on the scoreboard which allowed South Perth to get on top with a teriffic third quarter. South Perth eventually won 6.7-43 to Ballajura 3.11-29.
The 16s game was played at Lightning Park between Thornlie and Mt Lawley and was umpired by Scott Thompson and Clayton Gardiner. In what can only be described as an upset Mt Lawley won convincingly 15.8-98 to Thornlie 1.6-12.
All the umpires enjoyed the opportunity to umpire some quality games of football and embraced the Grand Final atmosphere.
