On Saturday 26th September 2009, Brett Rosebury became the first West Australian field umpire to officiate an AFL Grand Final.
Rosebury, who grew up in Armadale, also hails from the DDFUA.
Rosebury umpired with the DDFUA from 1994 to 1995 before joining the WAFL ranks in 1996.
He umpired the WAFL Grand Final in 1999 and made his AFL debut in the 2000 season at the ripe age of 20. He also went onto umpire the 2000 WAFL Grand Final.
Rosebury soon moved to Victoria to devote all his commitment and concentration to umpiring AFL football.
It began to pay off with Rosebury becoming known as one of the most consistent and accurate decision makers in the umpiring ranks.
In 2008, Rosebury was awarded the All Australian Umpire award and, somewhat controversially, missed out on a Grand Final berth.
In 2009, Rosebury made sure that nothing would stop him and he secured his first Grand Final after again being recognised as All Australian Umpire.
The members of the DDFUA are very proud of Rosebury’s success and continue to closely follow his progress.
Rosebury also keeps in close contact with all the DDFUA umpires back in Perth.
